How to Accept Credit Cards for Business Online
Looking to accept credit cards for business online? It's easier than you think
If you do business online, you either started accepting credit cards for business transactions or wish you could. People these days don't enjoy sending checks and money orders, much less cash, for their purchases. They want instant results, which means instant payment. And they want security: no one wants to just hand over a bunch of financial information.
Companies who accept credit cards for business purposes are more successful than those who don't. That's true for both online and offline businesses, but online, whether or not you accept credit cards often makes the difference between success and disaster.
So if you don't accept credit cards, it's time to start. And fortunately, a number of very easy options exist.
1. Go traditional
The most traditional way to accept credit cards for business is to visit your bank and set up a merchant's account. This allows you to accept credit cards in any form (in person, through the Internet, over the phone, etc.).
Although you get charged a small fee for this, it can be the most useful method if you do a lot of business in person as well as online. The downside, from an online point of view, requires customers to trust you enough to submit their credit card information to you directly, which makes many people skittish.
2. Go high tech
A far more common method used to accept credit cards for business online these days involves using a third party, such as PayPal or ClickBank, to process the payments. Third parties mean that an established and trusted company collects all of the financial information from both parties and handles the transaction on your behalf. You never see the customer's financial information, and still get paid quickly and promptly.
Of course, the downside is the fee. Nobody's going to manage your finances for free. The cost of using third parties isn't obscenely high, but it can be a bit of a thorn in your side.
Regardless of which method you choose, it's essential that you accept credit cards for business online if you want to have a chance at success.
