Is Paypal Credit Card Friendly?

We all know about Paypal credit card policies, but is it really as safe as it seems?

|

Chances are that if you shop online, you make some Paypal credit card purchases. But if, like me, credit card theft is a very real fear: how safe is this? Transmitting financial data online sounds pretty unsafe. Is it really that secure?

Pros:

Paypal is one of the industry leaders in making online payments. When you sit down to consider the advantages, you realize that:

-- Paypal provides a single company to deal with. Once you give Paypal credit card information, making purchases from a wide variety of businesses and individuals is simple. And these individual entities are not privy to your personal data.

-- Paypal is a legitimate business with legitimate owners. There's no concern that it's being run by crooks out to rob you.

-- Paypal goes to great lengths to encrypt and secure financial information so that no one can access your funds but you. If they even suspect an unauthorized transaction, they'll shut everything down until you've changed your password and other vital info.

Cons:

Generally speaking, Paypal credit card purchases are safe. But there are some difficulties you should be aware of.

-- Paypal is a common target for phishing scams, or fraudulent emails that try to get your personal information by claiming to be from a legitimate company. Some of those emails look pretty official, too. General rule: NEVER click on anything in an email. Go straight to the site.

-- All online payment methods have one con in common. No matter how safe the product, since it's "online", it's vulnerable to hackers. However, if you keep your Browser software updated, use a firewall and up-to-date anti-virus and anti-spyware software, it's safer than giving your credit card to a waiter in a restaurant or giving your credit card number to make a purchase using your cell phone.

Well, every up has its downs. But for online shoppers Paypal credit card purchases are a pretty safe bet.
