Two Things Your Credit Card Company Doesn't Want You To Know

A Couple of Credit Card Tips You Can't Live Without

|

If you have credit cards in your wallet you need a few tricks up your sleeve -- especially if you have any hope of contending with the games the credit card companies often like to play. Wondering exactly what you can do to stay on top? Here two tips to keep your money in your wallet and not wasted on unnecessary fees and charges...

1. Interest Rates Are Negotiable

If you have good credit and you feel your credit card company is charging you too high of an interest rate, you don't have to resort to changing cards. Simply call your credit card company and tell them you would like to negotiate a lower rate.

If your credit card company balks at the prospect of offering you a lower rate, tell them you will be taking your business to a competitor who has already agreed to the rate you are requesting. If your credit card company can budge and your credit score is worthy, a lower interest rate will likely be yours.

2. Late Fees Can Be Waived

You always make your payments on time but last month a bill went missing or your check just didn't make it through the mail. Suddenly you're hit with a late fee of $20 or more. Not fair, is it?

You're right. It's not fair. If you have a solid history of on-time payments and unforeseen circumstances cause one payment to be late, simply call your credit card company and explain the situation. Then tell them you want the late fee waived. More likely than not your request will be complied with.

Remember, your credit card companies need you just as much as you need them. If you feel you're being charged unnecessary or unreasonable fees don't be afraid to speak up. It can't hurt to ask your credit card company for a reduction in interest rates or forgiveness of a late fee or two.
