2 Easy Tips for Getting out of Holiday Credit Card Debt

Is Holiday Credit Card Debt Drowning You?

|

If you're like most Americans, you probably racked up some holiday credit card debt this year. And who can blame you? Some of those sales were just too good to pass up and you probably had quite a list of people to buy for. Alas, the damage is done. Now it's time to remedy the situation. Here are two tips to help you get out of holiday credit card debt fast.

Put That Tax Return to Good Use

If you're entitled to money back from Uncle Sam in the upcoming tax season, put that money to good use. Instead of splurging on yet another purchase, use the cash to pay off your holiday credit card debt. It may not be as fun as going on a spending spree, but your finances and your budget will be better off for it.

Tighten the Belt

Until that holiday credit card debt is paid off it's time to stop the little indulgences you allow yourself. Make a cup of coffee at home and bring it to work in a travel mug rather than buying something on the way in. Make a good meal at home rather than eating out on a Friday night. Rent a movie from the library rather than going to see one in the theater.

Sure, it may hurt at first but you can put that cash you save towards paying off your debt. The faster you pay that debt off, the sooner you'll be able to revisit some of your favorite indulgences.

And remember, the goal is to get out of debt. That means you shouldn't be adding more debt to the holiday credit card debt you've already accumulated so make sure any unnecessary purchases are avoided till those bills are paid off!
